FASHION COMMUNICATION

BLSH DIGITAL

For my final capstone the main topic surrounds the central concept of the misrepresentation of black women in the beauty industry. It is interesting to see how black women are often excluded from narratives pertaining to beauty and cosmetics. Through various lenses my research looks at intersectional feminism, colorism, and critical race theory. Important discussions that are researched include self perception / self esteem, safe spaces and hair politics. The overall goal is to create a digital safe space for black women to foster positive conversations about all subjects related to beauty and identity, it will also be a platform that offers information and editorials on beauty and hair that directly reflect black women as a whole. Black women have historically been at the fore front of many movements and often vocalize many issues on behalf of others, it is about time that they receive a platform dedicated to their beauty and see themselves represented rather than being pushed out of the conversation.
