MALE BREAST CANCER: FOCUSING ON THE ONE PERCENT

Breast cancer is a disease that does not discriminate – not by age, ethnicity, social status, or sexual orientation. This fact is however challenging in the way in which affected men are aided amidst a primary female community. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women will become treated for breast cancer this year, while approximately one percent of males will contribute to the number of overall cases. This project aims to raise awareness of male breast cancer, recognize those of whom have been impacted by the disease, and aid in the recovery of breast removal surgery. The fact is, most men are not aware that they are at risk (however small the percentage) and are very often excluded from support programs that help to deal with female cases every day. The goal of this Capstone is not to neglect women that have had this experience, but give a voice to the men that require the same caliber of support. The research gained from d mastectomy and allow for informative action a a designer and creative.
